This is how we work.

You’re here with me because you are excellent at what you do and on your way to getting even better. Working at our company affords tremendous freedom in exchange for high accountability and uncommonly good work. We maintain the balance with ongoing, open communication. You should listen. Speak up, too.

Above all, we like each other and we love our work. As a company and a team, we’re new, and we need to cohere. We will accomplish this best through authentic face-to-face interactions over the course of our work days. Be here mostly, but when you need to, take a walk. Go to your kid’s game. Spend time with friends and family or alone doing other stuff that makes you better (and more interesting) when you are here. Oh, and bring your dog(s).

As one of the founders, you can expect me to lead by example. I aspire to conduct myself according to our company values always, though inevitably, I will come up short from time to time. When this happens, I ask you to hold me accountable. The act will be reciprocated.

Beyond that, expect me to outline the opportunities before us, explain why we are (or are not) committing to them, and communicate what we need to do as a company to achieve our objectives. In exchange, I expect you to do what you do best and produce an abundance of exceptional work. 

We want you to always know what you’re doing and why you’re doing it. Do not wait for someone to decipher your needs. Set your own goals and share them. Ascertain your specific roles and responsibilities again if you’ve lost your way. Speak up when things are not clear, when you’ve hit a rut, feel overwhelmed or otherwise less than stellar about coming in to work every day.
